ks3switch - KDE GUI wrapper for the s3switch utility
ks3switch [-v|--version | [-?|-h|--help]
This is a very simple Graphical User Interface wrapper around the s3switch tool for the Savage video cards under Linux. s3switch is a command line utility to direct video output to one or several devices.
ks3switch depends on only perl and kdialog which is a command line tool for using KDE dialogs present in every KDE installation. This tool was written in order to make it easy to switch the video output to an external projector when giving presentations from a laptop.
Copy the binary ftp://ftp.probo.com/pub/s3s.tgz or source ftp://ftp.probo.com/pub/s3ssrc.zip distribution of s3switch. Be sure to read about its runtime considerations from http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html.
Install the executable into /usr/local/bin as root and make it suid root to allow any user to run it:
/usr/local/bin# chmod u+s s3switch
Place this program into the same directory (or anywheere on user's path), give everyone premissions to run it (e.g. 'chmod 755 ksw3switch') and you are done.
If you change the output to go only to an nonexisting device, you loose your video output! Keep a terminal window open in an other virtual desktop to be able to type blindly the correcting command (e.g. 's3switch lcd'). A nonexisting TV device is reported by some Savage drivers.

I am sure there are bugs but you have to fix them yourself.
This program is made available with absolutely no support. My laptop using a savage graphics card died over the holidays and the new one uses an other card. The code is made availabe just in case it is of use to somebody and for anyone to take its developing further - if needed.
You may distribute this program under the same terms as perl itself.
